Hundreds of thousands of Grade 9 students take part in Take Our Kids to Work™ Day
TORONTO, Nov. 04, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Hundreds of thousands of Grade 9 students are taking part in Take Our Kids to Work™ Day today, as workplaces and communities across Canada open their doors to help young people explore careers, build connections, and gain firsthand insight into the world of work. Presented by the Students Commission of Canada (SCC) and its national sponsors, the 32nd annual program celebrates this year's theme, Different Perspectives, Shared Direction.
The theme recognizes the diverse backgrounds, experiences, interests, and aspirations that people bring to workplaces across Canada. By welcoming students into their organizations, employers help young people discover new possibilities while demonstrating how different perspectives strengthen teams, organizations, and communities.
"Take Our Kids to Work is about helping young people discover what's possible," said Florence Bergeron, Chief Executive Officer, Students Commission of Canada. "Every workplace has a story to tell, and every conversation has the potential to spark curiosity, build confidence, and help a young person see new opportunities for their future. When we welcome young people into our workplaces, we also gain fresh perspectives that make us stronger."
Take Our Kids to Work remains Canada's leading career-exploration program, connecting hundreds of thousands of Grade 9 students with workplaces across the country each year through in-person and virtual experiences. The program helps young people explore career possibilities, ask questions, build confidence, and make connections that can shape their future.
"The future of work depends on people with different experiences, perspectives, and ideas coming together to solve challenges," said Bergeron. "This day reminds young people that there isn't just one path to success. Every experience adds value, and every young person has something meaningful to contribute."
Recognizing the changing nature of work, SCC continues to evolve its Take Our Kids to Work resources to reflect today's workforce and tomorrow's opportunities. Grounded in SCC's role as a Centre of Excellence for Youth Engagement, the program encourages meaningful conversations between students, educators, families, and workplace hosts while helping young people connect their interests, skills, and aspirations to future career pathways.
SCC gratefully acknowledges the support of its 2026 national sponsors: Oil Sands Alliance, WorkSafeNB/Travail sécuritaire NB, NAV CANADA, the Province of Nova Scotia, and the Government of Manitoba, whose commitment helps make career exploration opportunities accessible to young people across Canada.
